About Ms Grey Nomad

Because it’s never too late to travel, learn, or start something new.

A Warm Welcome

solo-travel-about-me

Hi, I’m the traveller behind Ms Grey Nomad—and like you, I decided it’s never too late to chase new dreams, explore the world, and create something meaningful.

I reached a point in life where I wanted something more — more freedom, more connection, and more meaning. So I packed up my life, stepped out of the corporate world, and began travelling solo full-time through Asia in late 2024. What I found along the way was far more than new destinations — it was a new way of living.

After retiring from my long career as a finance professional, I felt the familiar pull of curiosity. I’d spent decades balancing budgets, managing teams, and helping businesses plan for the future. But now, it was my turn to plan for something different — a slower, more meaningful way of life.

Ms Grey Nomad was born from that leap — from a desire to slow down, live intentionally, and rediscover the world (and myself) one journey at a time. My mission for Ms Grey Nomad is simple: inspiring mature solo women to travel slowly, confidently, and meaningfully across Asia.

🌸 My Philosophy

You’re never too old to reinvent yourself — whether that’s learning a new skill, exploring a new country, or building your first website. I believe in lifelong learning, slow travel, and the quiet power of independence. If my story proves anything, it’s that growth doesn’t stop at retirement — it just changes direction.

How This All Began

I spent decades in the corporate world as a CPA Fellow, building a stable career in Australia. The work was rewarding, the income was secure, and on paper, everything looked exactly as it should. But somewhere along the way, I realised there was more to life than climbing the career ladder.

I decided to step away from the traditional corporate path and embrace something I’d always wondered about: what would it feel like to travel solo? To slow down? To rediscover who I was outside of a job title?

The first steps were daunting. Solo travel as a mature woman came with fears—concerns about safety, logistics, whether I could really do this alone. But it also came with profound freedom. I immersed myself in Asian cultures, built friendships across borders, and learned more about myself than I had in years.

In many ways, Asia feels both familiar and new to me. I grew up in Malaysia before making Australia my home, so travelling through these Asian countries connects me to my past while letting me see it through fresh eyes. That mix of East and West gives me a unique lens on the places I visit and the people I meet.

I wanted to share what I was learning on this journey of discovery, but I also wanted to build something entirely my own. So, I decided to learn web design and development. I earned my certification early 2025, and I built Ms Grey Nomad from the ground up—every line of code, every design choice, every word on these pages.

Because here’s what I believe: it’s never too late to learn something new, to start over, or to become the person you’ve always wanted to be. That lesson changed my life, and I want it to change yours too.

What I Believe In

Ms Grey Nomad is built on four simple beliefs:

🌿 Slow travel – taking time to truly experience each place, its people, and culture. There’s a difference between visiting a place and truly knowing it. I believe in staying longer, learning the language, eating where locals eat, and letting a destination reveal itself to you at a human pace.

💛 Supporting women – Every recommendation on this site—from accommodation to local businesses to tour guides—prioritises women-owned and female-led enterprises across Asia. Your travel dollars have real power to make a difference.

🌏 Sustainability and respect – leaving positive footprints wherever I go. Travel should enrich both you and the communities you visit. I’m committed to promoting travel that respects local cultures, protects the environment, and leaves places better than we found them.

Empowerment through exploration – travel and learning are lifelong journeys; they don’t have an expiry date and growth doesn’t stop at 50. Whether it’s learning to navigate a new country solo, mastering travel budgeting, understanding points and miles strategies to stretch your travel budget further, or discovering new skills altogether—learning is how we stay alive, curious, and brave.

These values shape everything I share on this blog — from destination guides to practical travel tips and heartfelt reflections from the road.
